The Pew Charitable Trusts

The Pew Charitable Trusts have supported the FISH-i Africa Task Force since it was established in 2012 and worked with Stop Illegal Fishing on developing tools for implementing the Port State Measures Agreement.

The Pew Charitable Trusts are a global non-governmental organization who, through their Ending Illegal Fishing Project, have worked closely on building policy support and exploring technological solutions to IUU fishing.

Through supporting Stop Illegal Fishing and FISH-i Africa The Pew Charitable Trusts have enabled the development of new ways for countries to tackle illegal fishing, these solutions are driven by the needs of the countries and their fisheries officers and are flexible enough to respond to situations as and when they occur. Over four years this has resulted in a strong, determined and cooperative group who are empowered and resolved to act against illegal fishing.

The Pew Charitable Trusts has also worked with Stop Illegal Fishing, NFDS and NEPAD to develop a capacity needs assessment tool for assisting countries to determine the capacity gaps they have in order to implement the PSMA. This tool was developed and tested in six African countries and has now been applied in many more.
