Angola and Namibia Sign Agreement in Fisheries Sector
Luanda — Four documents on fisheries were signed last Friday, in Luanda, between the Ministry of Fisheries of Angola and the Fisheries and Marine Resources of the Republic of Namibia, under a memorandum of understanding signed by the two countries in 2014.
These are agreements on economic cooperation, fisheries research, fisheries surveillance, fisheries management and aquaculture.
In addition to the four documents, action plans for the implementation of cooperation in their respective fields were also approved.
On the occasion, the minister of Fisheries, Victoria de Barros Neto, said that the present agreements will allow the heads of the respective sectors to follow-up the actions and control them.
As benefits from this cooperation, Victoria de Barros pointed out the area of staff training and fisheries management, adding also that Angola and Namibia share the same ecosystem (Benguela Cold Current) and have shared resources to be investigated and managed by both countries.
According to the minister, mutual benefits can also be taken in the implementation of large project of aquaculture that the two countries are implementing, adding that there are also technologies that may be appropriate, both inside and outside the country.
Therefore, she said, countries have to share business, get technically and financially able partnerships, not only between the two countries, but also to attract partners from other countries, and to develop businesses that benefit both countries.
The Namibian minister, Bernhard Esau, said that each agreement is accompanied by an action plan, therefore, it is the time to start executing them
