Angola, Control of Fishing Activity Analysed in Luanda

The control and surveillance of fishing areas, statistics and management, the dynamics of the pelagic species populations, illegal and artisan fishing are being discussed in Luanda by experts from the Ministry of Fisheries and the CLS French Company (Collecte Localisation Satellite).

The meeting being held under the motto “Monitoring of fishing activities” is aimed at defining the best possible ways to meet the needs of Angola, and the technical options to be presented by the French company.

At the opening ceremony, the secretary of State for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Carlos Martino Cordeiro, on behalf of the incumbent minister, stressed that the meeting will allow the increase in knowledge from countries that are more advanced in this field and the emergence with objectivity and proposed ideas that suit the current situation of Angola.

On the application of the conservation measures and sustainable management of biological resources, he said the Government drafted other measures for the acquisition of water resources like boats and medium and modern naval vessels.

The construction and equipping of regional monitoring centres for fisheries in all coastal provinces, with surveillance posts in fishing communities are also included in the Government plan.

According to the French ambassador to Angola, Jean Claude Moyret, the meeting aims to find ways for Angola to maximise economic resources frin others than the oil sector, starting with agriculture and fisheries that are job creators, liable of increasing exports and reducing imports.

The meeting that will go until Thursday will address the implementation of the regulations of world fisheries and oceanography and dynamics of populations.
